official opinions: NATO Summit? No problem!

With the NATO Summit taking over Chicago (and all of its streets) this weekend, you might not be getting around the city much. But don’t let the street closings stop you from having fun this weekend! If you live in Logan Square…

Go to the Music and Art Meet Culture Festival on May 20, 2012! Bringing together Chicago’s top artistic and musical talent, My Daily Escape presents the largest indoor music, art, and culture festival. Located at the Congress Theater at 2135 N. Milwaukee Ave. Tickets are $15 and doors open at 5pm.

If you live in The Loop…

Go see Jersey Boys! The Tony and Grammy Award-winning Best Musical is only in town for another two weeks so catch them before they’re gone! With hits like “Sherry,” “Oh What a Night,” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” it will be a night to remember.  Located at the Bank of America Theatre at 18 W. Monroe, tickets range from $35 – $100. If you live near Ravenswood or Wrigleyville…

See Rent on stage! American Theater Company is teaming up with About Face Theatre to create a fresh look at Jonathan Larson’s 1996 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning rock opera about a group of Bohemian artists struggling to find life, love and art in a brutal economy and the height of the AIDS crisis at the end of the 1980s. Located at 1909 W. Byron St., tickets are $50. There are four performances this weekend.

If you live in Uptown…

Check out the opening of The Marvin Gaye Story! The Black Ensemble Theater presents Jackie Taylor’s The Marvin Gaye Story (Don’t Talk About My Father Because God Is My Friend) on May 20th with exclusive previews until then. The production revisits Marvin Gaye’s life and career, which spans three decades.  The late Marvin Gaye won the Grammy Award for Best Male Vocal Performance in 1983 for “Sexual Healing.” His other hit songs included “I Heard It Through The Grapevine,” “What’s Going On” and “Inner City Blues.” Located at 4450 N. Clark St., tickets are $45 and going quickly.  Note: This production is listed as Adults Only.
If you live in the Gold Coast…

Bring the kids to see Pinkalicious: The Musical! Don’t miss Chicago’s Emerald City Theatre production of this smash hit musical based on the fanciful popular book by Elizabeth and Victoria Kann. Best suited for cupcake lovers ages 3 and up. Located in the Broadway Playhouse of Water Tower Place (at 175 E. Chestnut,) tickets range from $16-$22. If you live near Old Town or Lincoln Park…

Check out The Doyle and Debbie Show at the Royal George Theatre! Bruce Arntson and Jenny Littleton wield the vocals of vintage country stars and the acting chops of Broadway veterans in this parody that both lampoons and idolizes country music’s tradition of iconic duos and their subsequent battle of the sexes.     So many things to do, so little time. Even though it’s an inconvenience to Prom-goers and wedding guests a like, it forces you to looking into all the options the Chicago Entertainment scene has to offer.
