Official Opinions: And the Oscar goes to…The Muppets?

At the 84th Annual Academy Awards this past Sunday, the Best Music (Original Song) category included only two nominees: “Man or Muppet” and “Real in Rio” from the animated movies, The Muppets and Rio, respectively.

It takes a lot of great talent to create an original song worthy of being recognized at the Oscars and some of the best have interestingly come from animated features or children’s movies.

It’s time we recognize the children’s movies that have moved up to the big boy world of the Oscars! Below are the Best Original Song winners from children’s movies since 1989—take some time to be a kid again and reminisce your childhood!

1989 – Under the Sea – The Little Mermaid

1991 – Beauty and the Beast – Beauty and the Beast

1992 – A Whole New World – Aladdin

1994 – Can You Feel the Love Tonight – The Lion King

1995 – Colors of the Wind – Pocahontas

1998 – When You Believe – The Prince of Egypt

1999 – You’ll Be in My Heart – Tarzan

2001 – If I Didn’t Have You – Monsters, Inc.

2010 – We Belong Together – Toy Story 3

2011 – Man or Muppet – The Muppets
