Guest Star: Relax, Big City Bride has you covered

This month Stitely Entertainment is showing off the amazing event planners at Big City Bride! It takes a great team of event planners to put on the wedding of your dreams and make it the best (and stress-free) day for the bride and groom, as well as their guests. We talked with Susan Cordogan and the rest of the Big City Bride team to learn more about how their company stands out from the rest.

Stitely Entertainment (SE): How does your company differ from its competitors?

Susan Cordogan (SC): Big City Bride is a team of talented, experienced, and very different event planners. As a team of five planners we have combined experience, connections, styles, and ideas so we can truly do it all! There will always be someone to answer the phone and answer an urgent question and there will always be back up on event day if needed.

Our cozy Lincoln Park office also sets us apart. With regular office hours everyday and flexibility for late night meetings we offer our clients a fun planning process. With endless inspiration our clients have a world of possibilities at their fingertips.

SE: How did you get started in event planning?

SC: With a background in TV production I began with corporate and social event planning.  My heart was always in events and since I was little I wanted to do weddings. I started Big City Bride ten years ago and we’ve since grown into a team excited to push the limits of weddings in Chicago.

SE: What part of your job do you find the most satisfying and the most challenging?

SC: Event day is a dream come true. It is why we do what we do! All of our hard work: the research, inspiration, meetings, conference calls, decisions, discussions, and timelines come together. Nothing is better than allowing a bride and groom to completely enjoy their wedding week with family and friends, stress free, and living in the moment of their wedding.  Their “I Do’s,” the toasts from people they love, their first dance till the last song… that is what event planning is all about!

Most challenging? Making it happen. Every event has its challenges but that is why the client hires us! Problem solving is what we do best and we’re happy to use our resources to fix anything that pops up.

SE: What is the key to a successful event?

SC: Understanding your clients’ priorities and personalities is crucial. It is not my event… it is theirs. My job is to help them figure out exactly what it is that they want, mix that with who they are and what they love, and create an event that embodies them.

SE: What is the craziest event story you can share?

SC: We had a bride hand her maid of honor her 5-karat diamond engagement ring to wear during the wedding ceremony so she could pass it to her during the ceremony. Sadly, when it was time to pass on the ring the maid of honor realized it was no longer on her finger! The ring was lost and never recovered. Luckily Big City Bride was on sight to fill out police reports and deal with the stressful situation.

SE: Any tips you can give to our engaged clients?

SC: Hire great vendors because they drive your wedding day.

We know that Stitely will rock the music and you’re in good hands there…but make sure your photographer, caterer, florist and planner are all people you can trust. On the wedding day you are at the mercy of their skills. Choose people you want around you on your wedding day who will be fun, reliable, and make it the day you’ve always dreamed of.
