Official opinions: ’tis the season to give to the arts

During this Thanksgiving holiday the musicians and staff of Stitely Entertainment want to give thanks for their opportunities to learn and experience the arts. Each one of us have had our lives enhanced by music, and for some of us our lives were changed by the opportunity to learn how to play instruments or sing.  In this time of giving, we know that there are a ton of requests on your money, time and commitment; we simply offer the following list of arts-related charities to consider.

The Arts Of Life: This Chicago-based organization offers artistic support and outlets to mentally and developmentally-disabled adults.  They offer a variety of arts classes, as well as a band of both disabled and non-disabled artists that play at events throughout Chicago.  We discovered this great organization through a recent Chicago Reader article in which they discuss the cognitive and emotional value of this collaborative project.  It’s just so gratifying to see (and hear) how people of all ages and faculties can not only enjoy music, but create it too!

The Fender Music Foundation: The Fender Music Foundation was created to provide funding and resources by awarding grants to American music programs so that both kids and adults will have an opportunity to experience the joys of music.  The Foundation believes that “music participation is an essential element in the fabric of an enduring society” and part of its mission is to educate the public on the value of musical education.  A donation of just $50 will put a guitar in a school that can be used by about 20 children throughout the year.

The Stephanie Rogers Band at Marwen's Paintbrush Ball

The Marwen Foundation: This is another fabulous Chicago-based organization that strives to educate and inspire under-served children without any prior experience through visual art in their weekly after-school and weekend courses.  Courses take place in six  studios where students are challenged to excel through in-depth instruction in a wide range of media such as painting, drawing, ceramics, photography & animation.  Stitely was privileged enough to support Marwen in 2010 when The Stephanie Rogers Band played at their summer Paintbrush Ball.
