official opinions: markets, music, and memorial day madness!

If you are looking for something to do this Memorial Day weekend, Stitely has you covered. With everything from patriotic parades to music festivals, Chicago is a great place to honor those we lost at war as well as kick off the unofficial start of the summer season. Here are some of the must-do’s in the city over the next few days:

1. Chicago’s Memorial Day Parade is one of the largest in the country. Kick off your weekend on Saturday May 28th at noon by watching marching bands, veterans, and others parade down State street from Lake to Van Buren.

2. On Sunday May 29th, hop on your bike for the only day of the year where Lake Shore Drive is closed to automobiles and open solely for cyclists! Bike the Drive is a 15 or 30 mile (round-trip) non competitive ride to raise money for the Active Transportation Alliance which raises funds to improve biking, walking and transit in the area.

3. On both Saturday and Sunday from noon to 10 pm head to Belmont & Sheffield for the Belmont-Sheffield Music Festival, for just a $5 donation roam the festival grounds and listen to local bands and musicians as well as browse arts, crafts, and a variety of food stands!

4. May 28th and 29th is the kick off weekend for the Randolph Street Market. This market has been labeled the “hot spot for antiquing” and is a mix of great finds from the Chicago Antique Market as well as the Indie Designer Market. Along with antiques there will be a vinyl swap meet, fancy food market, and global goods from the cities ethnic neighborhoods!

5. May 28th is the last day you can catch Boobs and Goombas: A Super Mario Burlesque at Gorilla Tango Theater. Celebrate the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. with performances by local burlesque artists.
