official opinions: How does your garden grow?

Looking for something to do this weekend to help celebrate the warm weather and the coming of spring? Join the Wicker Park Choral Singers for “How Does Your Garden Grow?” a fun, FREE hour of music on Saturday or Sunday afternoon.  Concert times are below:

Saturday, April 9 at 3:00 p.m. at Wicker Park Lutheran Church, 1502 N. Hoyne Avenue, Chicago
Sunday, April 10 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 306 South Prospect Avenue, Park Ridge, IL

The concert program is a bouquet of fine choral works, spanning William Byrd’s English Renaissance to the rock-infused music of New Yorker Matthew Harris. Audience members can celebrate the arrival of spring with Leonard Bernstein’s French influenced “Spring Song,” observe the abundant flora through Benjamin Britten’s “Five Flower Songs,” and experience the theatrical drama of a thunderstorm as depicted in Eric Whitacre’s “Cloudburst.”

To bring some literal garden growth to the event, WPCS is proud to be partnering with the esteemed Wicker Park Garden Club for this concert. The club will be providing seed packages for all concert goers at a ‘green’ information table in the fellowship hall of the church after the performance. Audience members will be encouraged to plant some seeds of their own, read about green technologies like recycling and water conservation, and attend a spring gardening session in Wicker Park where the garden club maintains 10,000 square feet of ornamental and training gardens.

Stitely Staffer, Rachel Mikolajczyk, has been a part of the choir since its inception in 2008.  (Click here for more info) This concert she is joined by Stitely’s Event Planning Coordinator, Carly Loonan, who is playing percussion on “Cloudburst.”  Come out to support the arts and celebrate spring!  (Or to admire Rachel’s hand bell solo.)  Hope to see you there!
