Guest Star: Timothy Whaley Photography

In our 15 years of business, Stitely Entertainment has worked with a lot of great vendors to make each wedding or event unique and successful.  Today’s Vendor Spotlight features Timothy Whaley Photography; a company with whom we’ve worked on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed their professionalism and quality.  We caught up with Timothy Whaley to learn a little more about him and the company.

Stitely Entertainment (SE):  How did you get started in the photography field?
Timothy: “My father and grandfather were both photographers. Dad had a high-end portrait studio in the city and my grandfather, whose footsteps I followed in, was a Chicago Hall of Fame Journalist. I was working as a journalist when a friend asked me to assist on a wedding. It seemed so clear to me that the whole point of the wedding was being missed photographically, and that a journalistic approach would allow the couple, their friends and family, to really FEEL what the day was like every time they looked at images.”

SE: What part of your job do you find the most satisfying and most challenging?
“The answer is the same for both, continuing to provide couples with amazing imagery that will allow them to feel the magic, fun, and romance of their day for the rest of their lives.”

SE: What is the key to a successful event?
“Couples who leave themselves more time than they think they need throughout the day have the best wedding day. They can relax and enjoy each moment as it comes without rushing into the next one.”

SE: What is the craziest event story you can share?
“I don’t know about crazy, but one of our photographers arrived to a house once to a bride crying hysterically in the next room. We’re there to capture the emotion, but not like that! It turned out that she was on the phone with her priest, who was informing her, hours before her wedding, that her marriage license was in the wrong county for the church! They lived on a county line and somehow that detail was neglected. The bride and groom wound up meeting an hour earlier at a different location to have a “legal” service, then again for all their friends and family members.”

SE: Why do you feel clients choose Timothy Whaley Photography over others?
“We offer a guarantee that couples will love their wedding photographer. In addition, we have unparalleled customer service (we’ve won the Knot.com’s Best of Weddings award all five years in a row and have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau), an amazing staff of creative photographers, reasonable pricing, and a 21 year history in business of making our couples happy.”

SE: Do you have any tips you can give to our engaged clients about getting photographed on their big day?
“Talk with your photographer about what types of images draw your attention both in a good and bad way. A good photographer wants to know both! Use images from their portfolio and even magazines to illustrate your point rather than adjectives like, “contemporary, traditional, fun” which means different things to different people. And most importantly, listen to your photographer when they talk about the timeline you’ll need to get what you want. Again, leave yourself more time than you think will be necessary. A couple that is relaxed and having fun will get the best pictures, especially from a journalistic standpoint.”

Many thanks to Tim for taking the time to answer these questions. We look forward to working with Timothy Whaley Photography again very soon!
