Today’s an oldie but a goodie with Ray Charles‘ 1959 hit “What’d I Say”. One of the most influential songs in R&B and rock and roll history, “What’d I Say” was the song that finally broke Charles into mainstream pop music and started the new sub-genre of R&B called soul. It earned Charles his first gold record and ranked at number 10 in Rolling Stone‘s “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time“. We learned from Jeff that one of the Stitely trumpeters used to tour with Ray back in the day- how cool!
